A traditional country artist from Oxfordshire, England, Ags Connolly has released 4 albums and his songs have been lauded by country and non-country artists and fans alike in Europe, the US, Canada and beyond. His third album, Wrong Again, was named Album Of The Year at the 2020 UK Country Music Awards, and his most recent record, Siempre, brings his Texas music influences to the fore. Ags will be appearing with Laurence Kingston on guitar.

Kat Lister is a writer and editor based in London and has worked in magazine media for nearly two decades. Beginning her career as a music journalist she spent her early twenties on the news desk at the New Musical Express (NME). She regularly writes essays, arts features and profiles for an array of publications including the Guardian, Observer, the i paper, The Independent, The Quietus, and The Big Issue. Her first book, THE ELEMENTS: A Widowhood, was published in September 2021 by Icon Books. Her second book, FRAGILE BODIES: Art Born of Bodily Trauma, will be published by W&N in April 2027.

Kat’s choice is Bob Dylan’s 1978 album Street Legal.

THE BALLET

The Ballet is the musical alter ego of the NYC-based musician and writer Greg Goldberg. The Ballet combines a wry poetic style with pop romanticism and a queer DIY spirit to create literary and infectious pop gems. In addition to citing Stephin Merritt as a formative influence, Goldberg draws inspiration from a variety of pop artists and periods; from 60s bubblegum to 80s synthpop and 90s indiepop, fusing these genres in sophisticated and original ways. Formed in 2005, Goldberg has been joined by several friends over the years: Craig Willse, Marina Miranda (La Pequeña Suiza), Ginger Brooks Takahashi (MEN), and Michael O’Neill (MEN). The Ballet self-released their first two albums: Mattachine! (2006) and Bear Life (2009). These records caught the attention of indie label legends Fortuna Pop!, who released their third album, I Blame Society (2013). After FortunaPop! closed shop, The Ballet partnered with Fika Recordings, who released their fourth and fifth albums: Matchy Matchy (2019) and Daddy Issues (2023). Goldberg is currently working on Ballet’s sixth album, arranged entirely on the Roland Jupiter Xm synthesizer, titled “Nothing Straight.”

EVRIPIDIS AND HIS TRAGEDIES

Evripidis and His Tragedies is the alter-ego of Evripidis Sabatis, a multi-disciplinary artist from Athens living in Barcelona. The "Tragedies" are the devastating, confessional, self-sarcastic and often darkly humorous pop songs that draw on his classical piano training, queer sensibility and storytelling skills, to examine and ultimately own up to the vicissitudes of life. Evripidis' pop inclinations take us for a bumpy, dancey ride across the fine line between tragedy and joie de vivre.

In 2021, Evripidis released his fifth album Neos Kosmos, combining his love of Doo Wop, Girl Groups, New Wave, Indie Pop and Bedroom Pop with richly textured electronic soundscapes, followed by a handful of singles, with Just a Little Wiser being the latest. Evripidis is currently working on new music.

Evripidis and His Tragedies has performed at international festivals like Primavera Sound, FIB, Indietracks, Eurosonic Noordeslag, etc, and in a plethora of venues in Spain, Greece, UK, Germany, France, Portugal, USA and Mexico.

Panic Pocket are recognised for their cathartic musical storytelling about shaking off bad relationships, the life-changing nature of female-friendship and the perils of online dating, "delivered with a wry sense of humour and an undeniable charm” – For the Rabbits.

We are looking forward to being back on the last Sunday of September after a long summer break. Hastings honky-tonkers The Longshore Drifters are our headliners. Playing traditional and cosmic country, covers and originals, the band are highly recommended.

Trotwood Events present Slipper + Kevin!

Slipper is the collaboration between Rachel Taylor (Rocky Lorelei) and Sean Armstrong—two singer songwriters who merge a selection of their solo works under this title, and accompany each other on guitar, bass guitar, and in gentle vocal harmony. They live in Berlin and release their music via Rehberge Records, a DIY cassette label which they founded in 2022. Both former members of Spinning Coin (Glasgow), they have been playing and recording music together since 2016.

In their recent 9/10 review of the new album from Slow Motion Cowboys, Uncut Magazine commented “it’s a wonderful throwback to early 2000s Americana; languid country with a cosmic backwash that underlies plaintive songs about loss and heartache but always with an undercurrent of hope”. Trotwood Events proudly present The Bevis Frond (acoustic) + The Black Watch

THE BEVIS FROND are a British psychedelic rock group, fronted by the enigmatic Nick Saloman. They have released over 20 albums, including the groundbreaking New River Head in 1991. Their music incorporates elements of 60s influenced psychedelia, fuzzy soundscapes and catchy songwriting. They’ll be performing as a an acoustic trio.

Hailing from Los Angeles, California, THE BLACK WATCH have released twenty-five LPs of fuzzy jangly indie pop. "Novelist and ex-English prof John Andrew Fredrick's poetic songs evoke Robert Smith if he was joined by both Nick Drake and Kevin Shields, finding mellow in the miasma, chaos in the calm." writes the Independent.

Allan Jones is an award-winning music journalist and editor. In 1974, he applied for a job on the UK’s best-selling music weekly as a junior reporter, signing off his application with “Melody Maker needs a bullet up its arse. I’m the gun, pull the trigger”. He was editor of Melody Maker from 1984 to 1997 and until 2014 editor of music monthly Uncut. His 2017 memoir, Can’t Stand Up For Falling Down, was The Sunday Times Music Book Of The Year. A second volume, Too Late To Stop Now, was published in 2023.

Allan’s choice is Bob Dylan’s 1986 album Knocked Out Loaded.

DANNY GEORGE WILSON’s formidable credentials go back to his days in seminal UK roots rock band Grand Drive with brother Julian, a solo album released on Paris-based tastemaker label Fargo Records and six albums of consistently high calibre output on Loose Music with the revolving cast of his Danny & The Champions of the World incarnation. In 2016 the Champs swept the boards at the inaugural UK Americana Awards, winning with Album, Artist and Song of the Year. Alongside Robin Bennett (The Dreaming Spires, Goldrush, Saint Etienne) and Tony Poole (Starry Eyed and Laughing) he released an eponymous album as Bennett Wilson Poole in 2018 (“instant classics… hints of Willie and Levon” Bud Scoppa, Uncut) – bagging another UK Americana Awards ‘Artist of the Year’ alongside being voted Americana UK’s ‘Band of the Year’.

GABRIEL MINNIKIN is a uniquely talented Canadian singer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist and a mainstay in the maritime music scene since the late 90’s. With four critically acclaimed albums, Gabriel continues to dazzle with his outstanding musicianship, densely-woven melodies, and titillating lyricism.
The ‘Flower Country’ project was described as having soaring harmonies, poetic lyrics, and melodies that both haunt and intrigue. That collaboration was showcased as an Emerging Artist at the ECMA’s, and nominated for the Music Nova Scotia’s Best Country Recording for 2017.

Karen Jonas returns for her annual UK Tour September 2025, with seven records and a brand new collection of poetry, “Poetic Evidence” (Aug 2025) in tow. Karen Jonas is a powerhouse songwriter, storyteller, and poet with a voice to match. Smart, witty, and rooted in femininity, Rolling Stone Germany called her “a bit dangerous and a bit wicked.” Her magnetically retro seventh album The Rise and Fall of American Kitsch (2024) is “gloriously whimsical” (Rocking Magpie UK), “ambitious, thought-provoking, relatable, and very entertaining” (Country Music People UK). Her ten-year touring history and the true joy of her art charm international audiences. Karen is a four-time Wammie (Washington Area Music) Award winner for Best Country and Americana Artist, Mid Atlantic Song Contest winner, Ameripolitan Award nominee, and official SXSW and UK Americanafest Showcasing Artist. A mother of four (and five cats), she prioritizes time at home but shines just as brightly there, with casually strummed songs and carefully-crafted poetry touching fans all around the world.

Wesley Stace was born in Hastings, East Sussex, and currently lives in Philadelphia. He released many albums under the name John Wesley Harding, before switching back to his birth name for more recent recordings, including 2021’s Late Style, and has recorded duets with, among others, Bruce Springsteen, Lou Reed, and Rosanne Cash.

Stace has published four novels, including the international bestseller Misfortune, and recently co-authored Mark Morris’ memoir Out Loud. His Cabinet of Wonders, a monthly show at New York City’s City Winery, was described by The New Yorker as “one of the finest nights of entertainment this city has to offer.”

Comedienne, cabaret artist, and living legend D'yan Forest (currently Guinness World Records Title Holder for Oldest Female Comedian in the World) is coming to London!

The Morris Folk Club runs on the last Tuesday of most months (excepting December and some other holiday months). Entry is free, and all are warmly welcome.

Our Folk Club runs from 7.30pm till about 10.30pm, and generally follows an open, floor performers/singers night format. You can just listen, and sing along, if you like, or you can perform. Let the MC know if you'd like to sing or play something - it's typically up to one item per half, time permitting. It's always a very appreciative audience - and, if you're worried about that kind of thing (which you shouldn't be), a supportive and forgiving one too.

A unique part of Morris Folk Club is that it incorporates elements of 'open choir rehearsal', when anyone can get a taste of singing with the choir, as during the evening we all together learn a song or two or go over an old favourite.
